R211 Subway Car

Produced by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority  /  2016

We were tasked to design the new generation of subway cars for New York City.  These cars will replace the remaining R32 and R46 cars in service since the mid 60s and 70s, and address the modern needs in ridership across the city.
The new R211 has an updated blue face with large windows, LED headlights, and destination signage.
The blue and gold accents on the side draw on New York state colors and the new MTA regional buses.
R211 features wider doors, and standing room around the doors, aimed at reducing station dwell times. Flip up seats, more grab bars, and an experimental open-gangway configuration will help to increase passenger capacity and movement between cars. Wi-Fi, USB charging, digital information displays and illuminated doorways all work to enhance the commuter experience.
